Learning a foreign language takes on special meaning when students have the opportunity to use it through research, conversation and teamwork. That is exactly how our Travel Fair, a group project carried out during English class, unfolded.
The students explored different countries around the world – Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States and Australia. They researched their landmarks, cultures, natural wonders and interesting facts, and presented what they had learned through creatively designed posters.
A special part of the project was presenting their work to their classmates. This gave the students an opportunity to use English in a real-life context, expand their vocabulary and develop their speaking and presentation skills.
Working in groups also encouraged collaboration, the exchange of ideas, responsibility and team spirit. For one lesson, the classroom became a little travel fair, while learning English became an opportunity to discover something new together about the world around us.
